In an effort to stay current, I recently made the executive decision that my website (which hasn’t been updated since the wheel was invented) needed a complete overhaul.(Thanks to my computer savvy brother-in-law, Yair, for all of his help and guidance!!) While I’m at it, I decided to try my hand at blogging and being more active on social media (I just added Instagram to my arsenal). So here I am… with a cup of coffee, trying to think of something to say! I’ve researched the makings of a good blog, and I’ve determined that the purpose for doing this is to give my customers a more intimate look at my life: my process, my studio, in essence, the whole me.
As I survey the contents of my desk for writing inspiration, I’m struck by the array of stuff that occupies the area around me (from left to right): an old temperamental laptop, business cards, receipts, magazines, cd’s with images of jewelry, my camera, bills, a mug of pencils and pens, a pile of bills and sales tax stuff, my printer piled with paperwork and catalogs, my cellphone, a measuring tape, sales slips from past shows, new pieces of jewelry that I brought up to contemplate, a little photo book of family pictures, a pile of sketchbooks (I have 4 or 5 going at any given time). Why am I telling you about my mess? Well, what better way to illustrate all of the aspects of my life than actually showing you?! The life of an artist (the debate whether I am an artist or crafts-person will probably be brought up in a later post) is really glamorized on TV and in the movies. You generally see caricatures of artists like a dippy tree hugging type who makes pretty pictures and picks flowers to put in her hair, or an angst-ridden, deep, sophisticated elitists type who make ‘conceptual’ art and talk art-talk… but, the reality is that there are so many facets to doing what I do, that I probably won’t ever run out of things to talk about!
Cheers to a new year!
Uh Oh! It’s the 1st! I have to run and pay the pile of bills sitting in font of me!!
